Art Galore Aboard Carnival Liberty!

April 28, 2005

When Carnival Cruise Line's debuts its latest and greatest ship later this year, she will be carrying a lot more than all the outstanding onboard features and amenities that one has come to expect from Carnival Cruises. Carnival Liberty, set to begin her career by launching Carnival's first-ever set of Mediterranean cruise itineraries on July 20, 2005, will also feature an extraordinary multi-million dollar art collection that will be incorporated into the existing theme and displayed throughout the ship. The impressive list of highly skilled artists and sculptors, commissioned exclusively by Carnival Cruises for the project, will be creating original works of art to enhance the vessel's already striking interiors, which will celebrate the world's great artisans and their works.

Israeli artist Calman Shemi truly took the Carnival Liberty's design theme to heart and has created an impressive series of large, colorful murals that feature depictions of iron workers, glass blowers, jewelry makers, and sculptors practicing their crafts throughout history. The massive aluminum panels that contain the murals, which measure a whopping six feet high by nine feet wide, are positioned within the ship's center stairways. Shemi has also created an incredible 45 different decor themes that will be featured in each of Carnival Liberty's nearly 1,500 staterooms.

California artist Marian Westall will also leave her mark on Carnival Liberty's soon-to-be-completed interior. Westall chose to pay homage to the artisan theme with a series of large canvases for the aft stairways. The brightly colored paintings depict pottery and ornate grillwork set against a variety of dramatic settings, including the desert, beautiful sunsets, and a lake.

Adorning Carnival Liberty's stair landings will be colorful tropical-themed pieces created by Florida native Virginia Ferrara. Each of these lively works is inspired by all the people, places, and culture that have come to define her South Florida home. Measuring up to six feet high by 15 feet wide, the huge, pastel-colored pieces offer a peaceful, laid-back look at the Sunshine State, featuring relaxing images of things like towering palm trees, hammocks, and swimming pool scenes.

Adjacent to the Carnival Liberty's swimming pools are four bronze statues created by world-famous sculptor Susanna Holt, who also has works displayed on six other Carnival cruise ships. For Carnival Liberty, Holt created remarkably authentic depictions of various nature scenes, including an anhinga bird drying its wings, sea lions relaxing in the warm summer sun, and two deer quietly observing their surroundings. Finally, completing Carnival Liberty's multi-million-dollar art collection are several colorful glass pieces compliments of world-renowned Italian glass artist Luciano Vistosi, which are illuminated from behind and positioned along Carnival Liberty's stunning ship-long grand promenade. Sara Righi's bronze sculpture of "Aurora" can be found along the promenade bar adjacent to the massive Czar's Palace Casino. Carnival Liberty will be the fourth ship to join Carnival Cruise's extraordinary Conquest-Class family of ships, which currently includes Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, and the newly released Carnival Valor.

The 110,000 ton Carnival Liberty will be followed by Carnival's fifth Conquest-Class ship, Carnival Freedom, which is currently under construction and set to debut in late 2006 or early 2007.

Carnival Liberty is currently scheduled to embark on her maiden voyage July 20 of this year with a series of 12-day Mediterranean voyages that will run through Oct. 12, 2005. Featured ports of call on these itineraries will include Naples, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Venice, Italy; Messina, Sicily; Barcelona, Spain; Cannes, France; and Livorno, Italy. She will then be offering a 16-day transatlantic itinerary departing Rome, Italy on October 24, and arriving at Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 9, 2005, making stops at a number of magnificent destinations including Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Malaga, Spain; Funchal, Portugal; and St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles.

Upon her arrival back in the United States in November, Carnival Liberty will then launch the cruise industry's only year-round 6 and 8-night Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida beginning on November 12, 2005.
