Celebrity Cruises Unveils Plans to Rejuvenate Century
June 08, 2005
10-year-old Caribbean-cruising all star, Celebrity Century, is slated to begin next April with plans to add 314 more balconies to the ship among other refurbishments. The estimated $55 million project is part of the premium cruise line's effort to bring Celebrity Century up to par with their newest builds, the Millennium Class ships.
The five week dry dock session will include clamping on new balconies and steel supports to balance the additions, but that's not all. The revitalization project also will result in the addition of 14 new suites, 10 new staterooms, an expanded number of Concierge Class category staterooms, a new specialty restaurant, and a series of the "tastes of luxury" that have come to make the Millennium-class ships extraordinary.
"Our goal is to modify the Celebrity Century to be more aligned with our Millennium-class fleet, in order to maximize guest satisfaction and offer every Celebrity guest a consistently extraordinary vacation experience across the fleet," said Dan Hanrahan, President of Celebrity Cruises.
Celebrity Century is in store for a sophisticated new Martini Bar opening up adjacent to "Michael's Club" piano and jazz bar. Celebrity's famed martini menu of more than 30 versions of the drink will be offered and guests are sure to find several tempting varieties to suit their taste, perhaps too many.
The outside dining area for the lido buffet restaurant on the aft deck will be converted into a chic, new tapas bar with bandstand offering yet another choice for dazzling, romantic ambience and a gorgeous view of the sunset.
The new Celebrity Century will also offer guests the enjoyment of great original works of art throughout the ship, as well as in its new art gallery. Similar to what guests have found on the Millennium-class ships, Celebrity Century's new art gallery will join the array of boutiques in "The Boulevard," where art aficionados have a chance to purchase one-of-a-kind works.
Further luxurious additions to be made to the Celebrity Century next spring include the line's exclusive "Acupuncture at Sea" program, where guests can experience acupuncture treatments, therapies and enrichment lectures by licensed doctors of Oriental Medicine. Also, Celebrity will be upgrading to flat-panel TVs in staterooms and wireless internet throughout the ship.
The "new" Celebrity Century will set sail on a series of 12-night Baltic and 10 and 11-night Mediterranean sailings, a 13-night "Best of Europe" voyage, and a seven-night Norwegian Fjords cruise. Beginning in November of 2006, the Celebrity Century will also be offering short cruises from the Port of Miami. The short Caribbean cruises will be available in four and five-night roundtrip sailings, offering travelers with limited vacation time the opportunity to experience the Caribbean Celebrity-style.
