Discovery World Cruises Now One of Select Few Cruising Galapagos Islands

July 11, 2005

Celebrated for offering truly thrilling itineraries to far away lands of astonishing beauty and culture, Discovery World Cruises has just added one more jewel of a destination—the Galapagos Islands. Having negotiated access to the tightly restricted cruising region of the Galapagos Islands, the line's MV Discovery will now join the select few cruise ships allowed to visit the rare wildlife and tortured volcanic landscape of Ecuador's San Cristobal Island.

As the first non-Ecuadorian ship to gain permission to these highly protected lands, MV Discovery, which flies the Bahamian flag, has an occupancy level of 650 but will be capped at 500 passengers for the Galapagos Islands tours. The ship will remain in these waters for three days during each visit and passengers will be tendered ashore to the land where time has seemed to stand still for eons. The Galapagos Islands flourish with exotic, one of kind encounters with marine iguanas, giant tortoises, sea lions and rare birds like the blue-footed boobies that parade among age-old rocks, unbothered by your presence.

Having pleased travel enthusiasts with insatiable appetites for knowledge and exploration, this unique cruise line specializes in the discovery of fascinating destinations like the Galapagos Islands, complemented by the comfort and style that is offered onboard the MV Discovery. The line also boasts the mid-sized ship advantage that enables them to pull into ports that the mega cruise ships are too large to visit, while at the same time a mid-size ship like MV Discovery is substantial enough in size to tackle the open seas, unlike smaller yacht-like vessels that require a coastal only itinerary.

Tim Davey, the line's vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services had this to say about the new addition of the Galapagos Islands:

"Discovery World Cruises strives to offer the most distinctive cruise vacations on the open seas." He went on to say, "Every consecutive cruise season we have been able to add more exotic and exciting itineraries. When coupled with the trademark service of MV Discovery's staff and crew, it makes for a truly memorable voyage."

MV Discovery has a friendly and convivial atmosphere. It features 351 cabins and suites, each with television and hair-dryer. There are three restaurants onboard, five lounges, a well-stocked library, casino, modern health club and spa as well as two swimming pools — one beneath a retractable dome. You will also find two Jacuzzis and a duty-free boutique.

These unforgettable cruise-tours to Ecuador's Galapagos Islands are included in the Polynesia, Peru & the Galapagos Islands itinerary, which departs April 7, 2006 on a 26-night voyage. The Galapagos Islands & Panama Canal itinerary departs April 27th, 2006 and combines the Galapagos Islands with the Panama Canal on a 16-night itinerary to the Bahamas. Fares begin at $3,795 per person, double occupancy.
