Delta Queen Cruise Activities - The Delta Queen
Relax in the cozy comfort of the Betty Blake Lounge. Sip tea in the Forward Cabin Lounge, and then join in the fun in the Texas Lounge. Stroll the decks outside your wood-paneled stateroom, each of which features an exterior view on riverside America and features individual climate control and private baths. Share the camaraderie of the Steamboatin' family who cherish her legacy.
Evening Delta Queen Cruise activities after dinner tend toward nostalgic rather than glitzy. Connie Jones And The Riverboat Five do Dixieland, show tunes, Big Band numbers without the big band, and dance music from eras gone by. Annie Lebeaux is a versatile singer and piano player. Shows are presented after dinner in the Orleans Room. Jeff Lashway plays the keyboard in the Texas Lounge and during dinner in the dining room and accompanies the band.
With Delta Queen Cruise activities, cruise guests can listen to several of the musicians play the boat's 1897 calliope, an antique steam-powered organ located aft above the paddlewheel. For one evening's concert, witness the steam colored in what the staff calls the "Aurora" effect - very pretty. Passengers get a crack at this unique instrument themselves and receive a special "Vox Calliopus" membership award for hitting five keys. Late-nighters can hear more of Annie's repertoire at the Night Owl Society every evening beginning at 10:15 in the Texas Lounge.
An important feature of the Delta Queen is her various themed cruises offered every year. Jazz, spring pilgrimage, the Civil War, steamboat racing, Cajun culture, fall foliage and holiday trips are wonderful examples.

Select a great book from the diverse collection in the Mark Twain Gallery, the boat's library. Enjoy a sing-along in the Main Deck Lounge, or tap your toes to a lavish show in the two-deck-tall Grand Saloon, the most elegant show place on the river. You'll find your own favorite nook aboard the grand American Queen.
American Queen also has a new program this year that is focused on Blues and Cajun culture and music. It will continue to offer its established Mark Twain program.
The blues and Cajun music performers are fresh, talented and work in the New Orleans music genre as though they were born to it -- and most were. They're Mississippi River performers, many having been born and raised in Louisiana.
Shows are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. for late seating guests and at 8:45 p.m. for early diners. Clara Christensen serves as the Riverlorian, and tells fascinating stories about navigation, the Mighty Mississippi, and the lively history of people who lived and worked along its banks with a wonderful flair for combining humor and information.
